Rules & roleplay

You talk to people nearby without doing anything special — whether you have to hold a key down is decided by your own FiveM setting (see below).

½ / ` (the key to the left of 1) – Cycle voice range: whisper / normal / shout

Caps Lock or Mouse 4 (hold) – Talk over the radio when you carry a handheld radio. People around you hear you too

Mouse 5 (hold) – Talk only to people nearby (same as your normal talk key)

/vol 1-100 – Turn the radio and phone up or down

Setting up your voice

Voice is handled by FiveM itself, not by the server. Press ESC and go to Settings → Voice Chat:

  1. Voice Chat has to be turned on
  2. Input Device – pick your microphone. If the wrong device is listed, nobody can hear you
  3. Output Device – pick the headphones or speakers you actually use
  4. Choose whether you talk automatically (Voice Activity) or hold a key down (Push To Talk) – both work fine here
  5. Turn the volume up if others sound too quiet

Still not working?

Work out which direction is broken first – that gets you halfway:

  • You can hear others, but they cannot hear you → it is your microphone. Check Input Device, and that Windows has not blocked the mic (Settings → Privacy → Microphone)
  • You cannot hear anyone → it is your output. Check Output Device and the volume
  • Neither works → close FiveM down completely and start it again. Voice is set up when the game launches, so swapping microphone mid-session usually only takes effect afterwards

If none of that helps, type /report and an admin will take a look.
