Rules & roleplay
Your driving licence is a right, not a piece of paper. The card in your pocket is only
the proof — and it always shows what the register says right now. If the right is
suspended, you can still hand the card over, but it reads INDDRAGET (suspended) right
across it.
You get a licence the moment you arrive in the city. It is losing it that costs something.
The police can check your papers
An officer on duty can look you up with Left Alt or /koerekort. They see your right, your
points and your history — the register, not the card. You are told that they looked.
Points
Drive badly and the officer can give you points instead of, or on top of, a fine.
Points expire on their own after 14 days, but collect three and your licence is
suspended for a week. The points are then cleared — you start over afterwards.
Points require that you were actually seen driving. On foot you cannot get any.
Alcohol
You can get drunk. Beer, whiskey and vodka are sold at the Liquor Store, and above roughly
half a per mille the car starts to weave and your vision blurs. It burns off on its own –
one per mille takes about fifteen minutes.
The police carry a breathalyser. You are asked whether you will blow, and you may
refuse — but the officer is told. Over the limit and seen driving costs a fine and points.
Far over, and the licence goes immediately.
Once you have lost the right
A suspension runs for the time it was set. But when that time is up you do not get the
right back by itself: you must go to the licensing office at the city hall and reinstate
it for a fee. Until you do, you are still without a valid licence.
If the licence was withdrawn entirely, you must also pass a driving test at the
driving school before the office will issue it again.
You may still drive
Nobody takes the wheel away from you. But without a valid licence:
- your insurance does not cover impound and storage fees
- your plate is flagged for police scanners
- you can be fined every time you are pulled over
It is a decision you are allowed to make. It is just an expensive one.
Cannot pay?
Fines owed to the state can be worked off as community service. Sign up at the city
hall, pick up litter in the area, and the debt falls with every task.
Lost the card?
If the card is gone or stolen it can be reissued at the city hall for a small fee — as long
as your right is intact.
Forged papers exist
Fake licences and ID cards circulate in the city. They look genuine when handed over — but
they are not in the register, and the police can inspect a document and expose it.
